Class Award Details
Beginning School Year 2007-2008, Mukul Management Committee, in collaboration with Mukul Teachers and OCDSB Site Administrator, has attempted to bring more consistency in the student selection process for Class Achievement Awards by mapping the grades from the OCDSB report card to three categories based on pre-determined category weights.
The mapping of report card component to category is:
- Language – Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing
- Heritage and Respect for Learning Environment – Class Participation, Initiative, Co-operation with Others, Goal Setting
- Homework Completion – Independent Work, Homework Completion
The category mapping and weights may be revised by the teachers during the school year based on course content and evaluation.
Procedure:
- The report card letter grades are mapped to numbers.
- Language Skills - A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, R=0
- Learning Skills - E = 4, G = 3, S = 2, N = 1
- The teachers enter the report card data in a spreadsheet to calculate the weighted average score and select the top students.
- In case of a tie for the 4th (or 2nd) award, all students with that total weighted score will receive the award. In future, the weighted score criteria may be refined to be more selective.
